Guide and travellers in a private sampan on a shaded delta canal

About

What we do, and what we do not

Luxury Mekong Tours plans private day trips and single-night escapes from Ho Chi Minh City into the Mekong Delta. We sell the parts of a delta day that make it comfortable: the boat, the car, the sampan, the lunch and the guide, all for one party, with the timing written down.

About

What we do

Our trips are short by design. A day by speedboat or private car, or one night in Can Tho. We do not sell longer journeys around the delta, overnight cruises or shared tours. Inside that narrow range we try to do one thing properly: take a party out of Saigon and back in comfort, without sharing a boat, a vehicle or a table, on a timetable that is honest about the river and the roads.

Most of the people who write to us have a constraint. A cruise ship with an all-aboard time. One free day in a business trip. An evening flight. Parents travelling with their adult children who want a gentle day. The trips are built for those constraints, which is why every quote starts with the door-to-door times and the margin we would keep.

How we plan a day

01

Door to door, in writing

Every plan shows when you leave the lobby or the gangway, how long each leg takes, and when you are back. Where a time is a range, we say so and say why.

02

The tide and the weather

For boat days we check the tide for your date and the forecast the day before. If the river is unsafe for a small boat, we say so and switch to the car version or move the date.

03

One party, nothing shared

The speedboat, the car, the sampan, the lunch table and the guide are for your party. We do not fill a boat with other bookings.

04

No shopping stops

Workshops on our routes are there because they are worth seeing. Nobody on the plan pays us to bring you in, and you buy nothing unless you want to.

Our approach

Honest about the delta

The Mekong Delta that appears in many brochures has changed. Floating markets that once had hundreds of boats now have a handful, or none; roads and bridges have replaced much of the river trade. We think travellers should know that before they book, so our pages say it plainly. Cai Rang in Can Tho still trades every morning, smaller than it was. Cai Be's market has faded. A speedboat from Saigon reaches the upper edge of the delta, not the wide river of the photographs.

We would rather lose a booking by being clear than have a traveller arrive expecting something that is not there. Where our pages give a figure, such as a distance, a fare or an opening time, it comes with a source and the date we checked it, shown at the end of the section. Where sources disagree, we say so rather than choose the more flattering one.

What we do not do well

  • Big parties. Each trip assumes one boat and one vehicle. Past roughly eight people you need two of each, and a coach tour is better value.
  • Longer journeys in the delta. We do not sell trips of two nights or more, homestays or tours of the far south and west. Those need a specialist in multi-day travel.
  • The lowest price. A private boat costs many times a seat on a shared one. If price matters most, a join-in tour is the right choice.
  • Languages other than English at short notice. Ask early if you need a guide in another language; we may not be able to find one for a date next week.
  • Same-day speedboat bookings. Boats and crews are arranged in advance. A car day is sometimes possible at short notice; a speedboat rarely is.

Why you will not find testimonials here

We do not publish customer reviews or quotations here. Reviews on an operator's own website are chosen by the operator, and there is no way for a reader to know which were left out. We would rather be judged on something you can check before paying: the written plan.

That plan names the vehicle class and the boat type, the times, the lunch, the hotel for a Can Tho night, and every line of the price. Ask us anything about it in writing, and keep the answers. If a plan from us does not match the day you get, the plan is what you hold us to.

How to reach us

The form on every page reaches us. We reply by email to the address you give, first with questions if the day needs them, then with a written plan. The contact page explains what to include so the first reply can be a plan, and how to book covers the steps after that.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Are your trips private?

Yes. Every trip on this site is for one party: the boat, the vehicle, the sampan, the lunch and the guide.

Do you run overnight Mekong cruises?

No. We sell day trips and one night in Can Tho, travelling by speedboat or private car.

Why are there no customer reviews?

Reviews chosen by the operator cannot be checked by the reader. We ask you to judge us on the written plan instead, which you receive before paying.

Can you arrange a longer trip in the delta?

No. Our trips are a day or one night from Saigon. For longer journeys you need an operator who specialises in multi-day travel.
