Luxury Mekong Tours
Is a day trip to the Mekong Delta from Saigon worth it?
Yes, if you accept what a day can reach. By speedboat you reach canals at the upper edge of the delta in about eighty minutes. By car you reach the big river at Ben Tre or Cai Be in about two hours. Can Tho is too far for a comfortable day and is better as a one-night trip.
What makes your trips luxury rather than standard?
The boat, the car, the sampan, the lunch and the guide are for your party only, and the day runs on your clock. We do not add shopping stops. Every quote lists door-to-door times and what is included line by line.
Why is there no price on the trip pages?
Because the largest cost is the boat or vehicle charter, and that depends on the date, the hours and the size of your party. The pricing page lists what moves the total and some published third-party prices for comparison.
How do I get in touch?
Through the enquiry form, which sits at the foot of every page. Answers come by email: a short list of questions if your day has loose ends, otherwise a written plan with the times filled in.

Tours
Can we combine the speedboat with the car day?
Yes. The speedboat day has a boat-out, car-back version: the boat takes you to the upper-delta canals in the morning and a private car takes you on to the Tien River at Thoi Son and back to Saigon. It is a long day of about ten hours.
Are any of these trips shared with other travellers?
No. Every trip on this site is for one party. If you want a shared tour at a lower price, a join-in tour is the better choice.
Which trip suits older travellers?
Usually the car day, because getting into and out of a speedboat at a pontoon takes some balance. The car day still has a sampan, but the guide chooses a jetty with easy steps.
Can we start from a hotel outside central Saigon?
Yes. Tell us the hotel when you send the form. A hotel far from the river pier adds road time to the speedboat day, and we show it in the plan.

Private speedboat day
Which part of the Mekong Delta does the speedboat reach?
The canals of the upper delta in the Thu Thua area, in the former Long An province. It is quieter and greener than the main Mekong branches, but it is not Ben Tre or Cai Be. For those, take the car day or the boat-out, car-back version.
Is the speedboat safe for children?
Children wear life jackets for the whole time on the water, and we ask for their ages so the crew brings the right sizes. Very young children may find the noise and spray tiring; tell us their ages and we will say honestly whether the car day suits better.
What happens if it rains on the day?
Light rain does not stop the trip; ponchos are on board. If wind or storms make the river unsafe, we tell you the day before and offer the car version or a new date.
Do we need our passports?
Boat operators ask for passport details before departure, so we collect them when you confirm. Carry a copy or a photo of the passport page on the day.

Private car day
Can we see both Ben Tre and Cai Be in one day?
It can be done, but we advise against it. The two sides are on different stretches of the river, and adding the second one turns the day into a driving tour. Choose one side and use the time on the water.
Is there still a floating market at Cai Be?
Only a few trading boats remain, early in the morning, and the press describes the market as faded. The boat traffic on the river is still worth seeing. For a floating market that still trades, Can Tho's Cai Rang at dawn is the one, and it needs an overnight.
Can we finish at the airport instead of the hotel?
Yes, if your flight leaves in the evening. Send the flight time; we set the return to leave a margin for the city traffic and tell you what that margin is.
Is the sampan suitable for someone with limited mobility?
Boarding means a step down from a jetty into a small boat, with help from the crew. Tell us about any mobility limits; we choose jetties with easier steps or replace the sampan with a garden walk.

Can Tho in one night
Can we do Can Tho as a day trip from Saigon?
It can be done, but we do not sell it. Seven hours in the car leaves little time in Can Tho, and you reach Cai Rang long after the market has thinned out.
Could we go one way by speedboat?
We do not offer it. We have not found a published speedboat schedule between Saigon and Can Tho that we could stand behind, so we plan this trip by car both ways.
Which hotel do you suggest for one night?
Usually a hotel in central Can Tho, because it shortens the dawn start. The islet hotel suits travellers for whom the hotel is part of the reason to go.
What if it rains at dawn?
Light rain does not stop the market or the boat, and the boat has cover. If a storm makes the river unsafe, the guide waits for it to pass or moves the boat ride later and explains what you will miss.

Mekong port day
Where do cruise ships dock for Ho Chi Minh City?
Large ocean ships usually berth at Phu My, south-east of the city and a long drive away. Some ships berth on the Saigon River closer to the centre. Your cruise line confirms which applies to your call.
How much time will we have in the delta?
From a city berth, often about four hours. From Phu My, less, because of the road. We tell you the number for your ship before you book, and advise against the trip if it is too short.
What if traffic makes us late?
The plan keeps at least an hour at the gangway before all-aboard, and the guide cuts the delta time rather than that margin. Check your cruise line's rules for independent tours all the same.
Do we need a visa to go ashore?
Visa rules for cruise passengers depend on your nationality and on what the cruise line arranges. Check with the cruise line before the voyage; we cannot arrange this for you.

Pricing
Why is your quote higher than other places for the same day?
Usually because it is not the same day. Ours puts a whole boat, a whole vehicle and a guide on one party, collects you from the door and has no shopping stops. Compare line by line: who else is on the boat, where the boat starts, and what the vehicle is.
Is the price per person or per party?
Per party. A larger party pays more in total but less per person, until it needs a second boat or vehicle.
Do you charge a deposit?
The written quote sets out how and when to pay. Pay only to the account shown on that written quote.
Can we remove parts to lower the price?
Yes. Every line in the quote can be removed or changed, for example the guide on the boat-out leg, or a simpler lunch, and the quote is priced again in full.

How to book
How early do we need to reserve?
For a speedboat day or the Can Tho night, a few weeks ahead is comfortable, more around Tet and holidays. Shorter notice is possible; send the form and we will say what is still available.
Can we book for tomorrow?
Sometimes, for a car day. Speedboats and Can Tho hotels are harder at short notice. Send the form with the date and we will reply with what can be done.
What if the speedboat cannot run on our day?
We tell you the day before and offer the car version, a new date, or cancellation on the terms in your written quote.
Do you need our passport details?
Yes, at confirmation. Boat operators and ports ask for passenger details before departure.

Destinations
Which Mekong Delta place is closest to Saigon?
By road, My Tho and the islets in the Tien River opposite it, at about 71 km. By water, the canals of the upper delta, about eighty minutes by speedboat from the city centre.
Is Ben Tre still a province?
No. Since July 2025 the former Ben Tre province is part of Vinh Long province. The town and the name are still in everyday use.
Can we see a floating market on a day trip?
Not one worth the drive. The surviving market at Cai Rang is busiest around six in the morning and is three hours from Saigon, so it needs an overnight in Can Tho.
Do you go to Chau Doc or Tra Su?
No. They are too far for a day or a single night from Saigon, which is all we sell.
Read in full: Destinations.
Ben Tre
Is Ben Tre still a separate province?
No. Since July 2025 the former Ben Tre province is part of Vinh Long province. The name Ben Tre is still used for the town and the area.
How long is the drive from Saigon to Ben Tre?
About 85 km, usually 1.75 to 2.25 hours by private car, including getting out of the city. Fridays and holidays are slower.
Is there still a ferry to Ben Tre?
No. The second Rach Mieu bridge opened in August 2025 and the temporary ferry stopped the next day.
Ben Tre or Cai Be for a first visit?
Ben Tre for quiet canals and a gentler day; Cai Be for river traffic and old wooden houses, with a slightly longer drive.
Read in full: Ben Tre.
Cai Be
Is the Cai Be floating market still worth seeing?
Not as a reason to go. A few trading boats remain early in the morning. The river traffic is still interesting; for a market that trades every morning, go to Cai Rang in Can Tho with an overnight.
How old are the houses at Dong Hoa Hiep?
The two usually visited date from around 1838 and from 1850. The village was recognised as a national historic relic in 2017.
Which province is Cai Be in now?
Dong Thap. The former Tien Giang province, which included Cai Be and My Tho, became part of Dong Thap in 2025.
Can we combine Cai Be and Ben Tre?
It is possible but turns the day into a driving tour. Choose one side and spend the time on the water.
Read in full: Cai Be.
Can Tho
Is Cai Rang floating market still worth seeing?
Yes, if you are there by about six in the morning. It is much smaller than it was and has many tour boats, but it still trades every morning, which most other delta markets no longer do.
How far is Can Tho from Saigon?
About 171 km by road, three to three and a half hours by private car, or about four hours by bus.
Can we fly to Can Tho?
Can Tho airport has domestic flights. Check the airline's current schedule for your date; routes change.
Is the former Azerai Can Tho still open?
The resort left the Azerai brand in October 2024 and was announced as Legacy Mekong, Can Tho, Autograph Collection in December 2025. Check its current name and services when booking.

The Saigon River route
How long does a speedboat take from Saigon to the Mekong Delta?
About one hour and twenty minutes to the canals of the upper delta in the Thu Thua area, on published timetables. Reaching the big river at My Tho or Ben Tre by boat in a day is a different matter, and we do not sell it.
Where do speedboats leave from?
From Bach Dang pier on the Saigon River in the city centre, a few minutes from the central hotels.
Does the tide affect the trip?
Yes. Very high water can block low bridges on small canals, and very low water can make them too shallow. We set the departure around the tide for your date.
Can we see the river without a full day?
Yes. The public Saigon Water Bus runs about 11 km upriver from Bach Dang for VND 15,000 one way, published at the end of 2025.

Speedboat or car
Is the speedboat faster than driving to the Mekong Delta?
To the upper-delta canals, yes: about eighty minutes on the water with no traffic. To Ben Tre or Cai Be, the car is the practical way in a day, at about two hours each way.
Can we take luggage on the speedboat?
Day bags only. If you are checking out that day, the suitcases go by car to your next hotel or the airport, quoted separately.
What happens to a speedboat day in bad weather?
We check the forecast the day before. If wind or storms make the river unsafe, we switch to the car version, move the date or cancel on the terms in your written quote.
Which is better for older travellers?
Usually the car. Getting into and out of a speedboat at a pontoon takes balance, and the ride can be bumpy.

Planning a shore day
Is a Mekong Delta shore excursion possible from Phu My?
On a long call, yes, with less delta time than from a city berth. On a call of under about ten hours, the road takes too much of the day and we suggest the city instead.
How far is Phu My from Ho Chi Minh City?
A port guide puts the drive at 1.5 to 2 hours or more each way to the centre, depending on traffic. The delta is further.
Will the ship wait if we are late?
Do not assume so. Check your cruise line's rules for independent tours. Our plans keep at least an hour of margin at the gangway.
What do you need from us to plan the day?
The ship's name, the date, the berth, the time you can go ashore and the all-aboard time, plus how many are travelling. Passport details follow at confirmation.

When to go
Which months suit a Mekong Delta day trip most?
December to February is the easiest: dry, the coolest weather of the year and calm water for boats. March and April are also dry but hot.
Can we go in the rainy season?
Yes. Mornings are often dry and the rain usually comes later in the day. The speedboat carries more weather risk; the car day is the least affected.
When is fruit season?
The orchards are at their fullest from May to August, with rambutan, durian, longan and mango in season.
Do tides affect a day trip?
They decide which canals a boat can use and when. The highest tides come around October and November; we set each plan against the tide table.

About us
Are your trips private?
Yes. Every trip on this site is for one party: the boat, the vehicle, the sampan, the lunch and the guide.
Do you run overnight Mekong cruises?
No. We sell day trips and one night in Can Tho, travelling by speedboat or private car.
Why are there no customer reviews?
Reviews chosen by the operator cannot be checked by the reader. We ask you to judge us on the written plan instead, which you receive before paying.
Can you arrange a longer trip in the delta?
No. Our trips are a day or one night from Saigon. For longer journeys you need an operator who specialises in multi-day travel.

Contact
Can we speak to someone by phone?
The site lists no phone line. Write through the form; the reply comes by email to the address you enter.
Can we ask a question before we decide?
Yes. Questions about timing, tides, the berth or which side of the river suits you are exactly what the form is for.
We are on a cruise and do not know the berth yet. Should we wait?
No. Send what you know now. We will explain how the berth changes the plan and finish it once your cruise line confirms.
Can we book for someone else?
Yes. Give us the travellers' details and the email of the person who should receive the plan.
